Lizards, Beetles, Bugs galore!

Owen A. Lee is a critter man. First instance was one evening he came up to me with a black beetle in his hand saying "Bug mommy, bug!". I, of course, sent him to show the neighbor lady his dead bug only to discover that it was still alive! How he caught it I don't know. Then while his cousin Tierney was watching him this week he somehow managed to beat to death a lizard with a car cleaning brush that was in the backyard. Yes, his cousin let him do it...she claims not to like lizards and feigns an inability to control the 20mo old and his infinite strength ;). He chased it down and bashed it's guts out repeatedly. Gross. This evening he and brother were outside playing while I finished up dinner prep and he comes in saying "Bug Daddy" --he got no response--so he walks into the kitchen with the golden colored bug and shows it to me. No clue if it was dead or alive but it totally reminded me of what pet owners say doggies do. They kill or catch just to show it off or for the sport of it. I love that he's...uh...interested in nature...so I don't discourage it as long as he gives "gentle touches". Speaking of which, when he took the bug back outside I heard him later hollering to Daddy about a lizard. Daddy went out to look and he was petting it! I can't catch those things let alone pet them...
